In the 70s kids had Atari, in the 80s kids had the NES, but in the 90s we had Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast, Sega Saturn, Sega CD, and the original Playstation. What I’m trying to get at, is the 90s were definitely the era when video games burst into the mainstream.
I can remember countless hours when I’d come home from school and try to jump in front of my TV set and play Toejam & Earl on the Sega Genesis, only to be told by my parents I couldn’t waste my afternoons playing video games…but I, like many other kids from that day in age were obsessed. The graphics were bumped up with each system, and when the Nintendo 64 and original Playstations were released it was like video games were real life! Looking back now…it really didn’t look anything like real life, but we didn’t know any better.
Now there were literally THOUSANDS of games to choose from that were released in the 90s, but if you had to choose…which one would you pick as your favorite? It’s a very tough decision, but in my case I’m going with Super Mario 64. I remember getting it on Christmas Day 1996 and unfortunately not being able to play it right away because we didn’t have the right TV hookup! Still to this day, I can remember my Dad finally getting the N64 to work properly and Mario’s face popping up on the screen much to my enjoyment, and it was all over from there.
But, that’s just my opinion…I want to hear yours! Were you a Sonic the Hedgehog Kid? What about Donkey Kong? Maybe you liked Tomb Raider or Resident Evil? There are no wrong answers, but none the less I want to hear yours! Send them my way on Twitter, or on That 90s Show’s Facebook page! I’ll talk about some of your favorites Monday night at 9pm on That 90s Show!
